Kung Fu Tests

The term kung fu refers to any skill acquired through devoted study. It could refer to skill acquired in painting, calligraphy, music, or any other art. In other words, it does not necessarily correlate only to skills acquired through martial arts training; though the two are often associated.

Since striking is an integral component of many martial arts; one of the tests that practitioners use to verify their skill is the ability to break inanimate objects using parts of their bodies. This type of kung fu test is very dangerous and should only be attempted under the supervision of a qualified martial arts trainer.

In this video, I document my attempts at some kung fu breaking tests. The boards used are specifically designed for this purpose. They are made of paulownia wood (an oriental variety), cut to size and sanded smooth. They are available from most local or on-line martial arts supply stores.
